Day 26 - Thursday 14th December

Sea Survival

We spent the morning in the classroom learning about the dangers at sea and what equipment we have on board to help us should we ever find ourselves having to abandon ship.

The afternoon was spent at a local swimming pool practising using a life raft. Fully dressed, with inflated life jackets we had to practise entering the life raft from the water. It is so much harder than I ever imagined, and although I had a freezing cold hose being pointed straight at my head, the swimming pool is a far kinder environment so it really brought home the dangers involved once you have to abandon ship. We tried to imagine being in it at sea, in the cold with people suffering from sea sickness.... not a pleasant thought!

That evening we had our "Part 1 Debriefing", followed by a group dinner. Everyone was quite excited as we neared the end of Part 1... a step closer to Sydney!
