Day 2 - Monday 20th November
The aim of the next five days is to become 'Competent Crew'... this is a pretty basic qualification that essentially just gives you a feel for sailing and living on board a yacht. What can possibly go wrong?!
Our cottage of 8 were divided between 2 boats and away we went... first stop... The Folly!
Before I forget, let me introduce our skipper - John Roe! He's a salty old sea dog who kept us on our toes... judging by the photo, we didn't do the same for him.
After faffing around for most of the morning we spent the afternoon sailing around in the Solent picking up the basics. It wasn't too windy and was fairly mild... this is easy I thought!
By 18.30 we'd moored up at The Folly, a pub on the Medina River, a couple of
miles from Cowes. We ate dinner, drank some wine and tried to get back on the
boat... but the path up to the pub had been flooded by the tide! Damn... guess
we'd better have another drink...
