| What on earth am I doing? Over the next few months, I'm going
to be doing a training course called the
Yachtmaster Basic Traineeship with a company called Flying Fish. This will qualify me to
"take charge
of a sailing vessel up to 24 metres long, on offshore passages up to 150 miles
from harbour".
Before starting out
on this course I worked as a secretary in investment banking, but decided it was
time for a change, so quit my job, sold my flat and signed up to do the
Yachtmaster. It's quite a big step and probably quite risky since most of my
sailing experience is dinghy sailing in the Thames, as opposed to sailing
yachts. Will it all be worthwhile? Am I going to regret my life changing
decision? Only time will tell!
The course is in 3 parts, for a
total of 14 weeks.
The first 4 weeks are in Cowes, Isle of Wight -

Then I have just over 4 weeks off over Christmas and New Year...
On January 17th I'll fly to Sydney for 8 weeks -

Before I can take the last 2 weeks of the course, I have to log 500 miles at sea
independently...
I can then take the last
2 weeks up to a year later.
